The Full Moon at 17 Capricorn 09' will occur on July 9, 2017 at 10:06 PM MDT.
With the moon in Capricorn (conjunct Pluto and Juno, both retrograde) opposite Sun and Mars in Cancer, and forming a loose cardinal cross to Jupiter in Libra and Eris in Aries, I'd expect nothing short of a Dark Goddess initiation this weekend. What will your legacy be? If there is one zodiac sign that wants you to answer this question, it is most definitely Capricorn. Capricorn is symbolized by the goat (sea-goat, actually) which climbs its way through life from the depths of the sea -- that primordial amniotic fluid of Creation -- to the top of the mountain, the pinnacle of achievement. For the sea-goat, reaching that mountain top is everything. Step by step, it eventually gets there. Sea-goats are mythological creatures, of course, whose message is really about the will to evolve consciousness. Using its inner resources to climb from the depths of the sea, scaling the mountain walls to reach the plateau only to walk off into the sunset...its story illustrates the importance of showing up each and every day to do the work necessary to transcend the obstacles in our way. Driving through Wyoming one year on a family summer vacation, we pulled over to the side of the road to watch a mountain goat. It was perched precariously on the edge of a 90 degree cliff, scaling a vertical wall of earth with a swiftness of purpose I’d never witnessed before. It reached the plateau and then sauntered off out of sight, as if proud of its accomplishment. We contribute to our personal legacy each and every day whether we realize it or not. For some, legacy means the wealth we leave behind. For others, it’s about the artifacts and ideas we give to the cultural landscape or how our body of work can help humanity for generations to come. For others, it’s simply how we wish to be remembered. Neither is right or wrong. What is alarming is how little conscious energy we give to the legacy we are creating. The full moon in Capricorn is calling on us to shore up our legacies. This full moon is nested in between Pluto, the God of transformation and Juno, the Goddess of Sacred Unions. Both are retrograde, meaning a period of reevaluation. Pluto transits are initiations. Pluto can seem like our worst critic, but the truth is that Pluto points out our weaknesses with the hopes that we finally understand the old axiom, "you are only as strong as your weakest link." Pluto takes us under, into the depths of our personal underworld, and teaches us how to see in our darkness. But this full moon will actually illuminate those areas within. What are you avoiding? Where are you giving away your personal power --and what for? Pluto wants us to claim sovereignty over our lives, and if we are avoiding the work that must be done -- if we are not showing up to lay the groundwork-- are we giving away our power to control what our legacy will become? Juno transits lend a feeling of commitment to whatever She touches. Juno (Hera), the Queen of Sacred Unions was known in Greek mythology as the "jealous wife" to Zeus (Jupiter). In her numerous stories, She sought revenge on her husband's mistresses in the most facetious of ways. But these tales are more modern constructs, told by men who likely did not understand -- some would say, who actually feared -- femininity. Though Juno’s more ancient tales as a sovereign Queen were revised to depict her as a dependent wife, (hence, serving as a bridge from matriarchy to a patriarchal culture) her true legacy remains. Juno's stories pre-date the Hellenistic tales and depict a woman in control of her emotions and her domain. As a Queen in her own right, she teaches sovereign leadership, diplomacy and the politics of peace. Juno brought women together to teach them the sacred arts of the feminine -- everything from sacred sexual union to running a domestic household, including how to maintain sovereignty within a committed relationship. Opposite is the Sun and Mars in Cancer, a highly energized combination of emotional reactivity. With the moon showing us where our personal commitments may be weakening our resolve to create a life we are passionate about, this touch point of the Sun/ Mars could be triggering a reaction to our deepest insecurities. In addition, these aspects are forming a loose Cardinal Grand Cross -- squaring to Jupiter in Libra and Eris, the Goddess of Discord, in Aries. Eris is a slow moving asteroid, taking 560 years to orbit the sun. Needless to say, Eris is positioned in the sign of Aries for the long haul, where She has us working through self assertions. Eris, a Dark Goddess, is associated with the confusion and rage that comes from feeling abandoned. Remember, She was the Goddess who, uninvited to the wedding of the century, crashed the party by rolling a golden apple inscribed “Calisti” (For the Fairest) into the middle of the festivities. Of course, Aphrodite (Venus), Hera (Juno), and Athena all clamored for the prize and the ensuing chaos led to the Trojan War. Things may feel quite urgent this weekend, insecurities may be triggered, you may feel tested and feelings of abandonment all are at play here. It is time to get real. Anger is an energy and a resource. As Gloria Steinem famously said, “The truth will set you free, but first, it will piss you off!” There is no escaping the reality of what we are creating for ourselves. That is the beauty of the Dark Goddess. If we are not facing our truth, the Dark Goddess steps in and shows it to us, and this full moon calls on us to re-examine our activities which inevitably contribute to our personal legacy. It’s time to notice where we are negotiating away too much of our personal power through the unconsciousness of our daily activities. Are we deliberate with the use of our time and do we honor personal sovereignty that allows us to choose who to partner with? Are our partnerships idealized projections, or are they grounded in soulful interaction that allows for equal exchange of both parties to get their needs met? Are we taking steps to build the legacy or are we avoiding the work that inevitably will be done? Righteous anger is the feeling that arises when one has been badly taken advantage of. It is ok to feel this way, but it is never ok to invoke revenge. Pluto and Juno (both retrograde) are demanding maturity in the way we handle these emotions, especially when others have breached our boundaries. There is no easy way to put this, but this full moon can feel rough. And yet, if you are willing to ride the waves, you will find it is about standing in your truth, asserting your truth, and letting any righteous indignation contribute to the legacy you wish to leave behind.
