WATCH THE SHADOWS...
I happened to have manifested a mountain cabin in Cascade, ID (in the path of the solar eclipse totality) for the weekend. We could watch the eclipse from there, but I just heard the traffic back (normally a two hour drive) will be bumper to bumper and increase drive time to 16 hours. Since I have appointments after the eclipse, I don't think we can do that.
Instead, I'm resigned to sit on my roof top and watch a 98% coverage eclipse. I have glasses, but what it really cool during an eclipse is to pay attention to the shadows. When the sun shines through the leaves of the trees, it casts an interesting shadow on the ground that looks like thousands of eclipses all over.
And isn't that an interesting metaphor for what is happening right now? I mean, an eclipse is the conjoining of the moon and the sun -- the conscious and the subconscious-- to create an interesting spectacle from down on earth.
A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the earth and the sun, blotting out the sun from our view down here. This is symbolic of the emotions shading the ego. The two must work together to find balance, but for a brief period in time, one will be darkened.
Shadows come out to play.
This event will be the second new moon in Leo for 2017, so the themes of Leo are being activated once again. These include courage, authenticity, creativity. They also include self-importance, arrogance and narcissism.
And during this new moon, there is the potential to let our hot and fiery emotions lead -- with our passion (Mars) in close contact with our consciousness (Sun) and subconscious (Moon). With the concentrated energies in the fiery sign of Leo (and with the supportive energies of the Grand Trine between the new moon, Saturn in Sagittarius and Uranus in Aries), there is certainly a desire to act before thinking. But the supportive trine shows us how being true to the heart can liberate us and sustain us well into the future.
Venus, the Goddess of Love and symbolic of our values, is in close contact to Ceres, the Great Mother. Both are opposite Pluto, the Transformer. This aspect speaks of a need to rebalance the masculine and feminine.
The story of Persephone's abduction is rife with manipulation-- Pluto/ Hades manipulated Zeus into allowing him to take Persephone. Ceres/ Demeter manipulated everyone into returning her daughter to her. Persephone even manipulated her situation -- did she eat the pomegranate seeds because they were offered to her, or did she do it of her own accord? We never fully know...
But it is also a story of individuation. When we take responsibility for our actions, we grow. We mature. And we can live with the compromise. Everyone wins.
This new moon and solar eclipse is asking us to acknowledge the many ways we may be reacting out of fear. It is asking us to acknowledge how our lives will transform when we return to heart-centered practice, in true alignment with our values.
This is the New Moon in Leo forecast for July 23, 3:45 AM MST at 0 degree Leo 44min. The Season of Leo has officially begun and with this new moon, we have opened the door and crossed the threshold and now there is no turning back.
This is the first of two new moons in leo this year (the next being the great American Eclipse on the 21st)
Normally ...the Season of Leo is Carefree and lighthearted. It lasts from July 22nd to August 22nd, when the sun enters the sign.
But the Lunar Leo energies are the overarching theme of this entire year (in fact, through December 2018, as long as the nodes are transiting the Leo/ Aquarius axis.)
Leo is fixed fire, a stabilizing of the life force vitality.
It is the fifth sign of the zodiac, ruled by the Sun and has domain over the 5th house, which is the life area of creativity, fertility, play, fun and pleasure.
The zodiac sign for Leo is the lion, a symbol of courage, valor and strength -- and also, rage, terror and ferocity.
In Goddesstrology, there are a number of Goddess representations that could be associated with Leo -- Durga, Asherha, Ishtar, Artemis, Cybele, Inanna...but I wanted to talk about Sekhmet in this podcast because her attributes are so leonine she could truly be the All-Time Mascot for Season of Leo.
Sekhmet's signature is all over this chart, from the Mars combustion, to the trine to Chiron and the square to Uranus/ Eris.
This new moon is inviting us to surrender to the life- death - life cycle that is inherent in Sekhmet’s story. Have a listen....

The Full Moon at 17 Capricorn 09' will occur on July 9, 2017 at 10:06 PM MDT.
With the moon in Capricorn (conjunct Pluto and Juno, both retrograde) opposite Sun and Mars in Cancer, and forming a loose cardinal cross to Jupiter in Libra and Eris in Aries, I'd expect nothing short of a Dark Goddess initiation this weekend.
What will your legacy be?
If there is one zodiac sign that wants you to answer this question, it is most definitely Capricorn.
Capricorn is symbolized by the goat (sea-goat, actually) which climbs its way through life from the depths of the sea -- that primordial amniotic fluid of Creation -- to the top of the mountain, the pinnacle of achievement.
For the sea-goat, reaching that mountain top is everything. Step by step, it eventually gets there.
Sea-goats are mythological creatures, of course, whose message is really about the will to evolve consciousness. Using its inner resources to climb from the depths of the sea, scaling the mountain walls to reach the plateau only to walk off into the sunset...its story illustrates the importance of showing up each and every day to do the work necessary to transcend the obstacles in our way.
Driving through Wyoming one year on a family summer vacation, we pulled over to the side of the road to watch a mountain goat. It was perched precariously on the edge of a 90 degree cliff, scaling a vertical wall of earth with a swiftness of purpose I’d never witnessed before. It reached the plateau and then sauntered off out of sight, as if proud of its accomplishment.
We contribute to our personal legacy each and every day whether we realize it or not.
For some, legacy means the wealth we leave behind. For others, it’s about the artifacts and ideas we give to the cultural landscape or how our body of work can help humanity for generations to come. For others, it’s simply how we wish to be remembered.
Neither is right or wrong.
What is alarming is how little conscious energy we give to the legacy we are creating.
The full moon in Capricorn is calling on us to shore up our legacies.
This full moon is nested in between Pluto, the God of transformation and Juno, the Goddess of Sacred Unions. Both are retrograde, meaning a period of reevaluation.
Pluto transits are initiations. Pluto can seem like our worst critic, but the truth is that Pluto points out our weaknesses with the hopes that we finally understand the old axiom, "you are only as strong as your weakest link."
Pluto takes us under, into the depths of our personal underworld, and teaches us how to see in our darkness. But this full moon will actually illuminate those areas within.
What are you avoiding?
Where are you giving away your personal power --and what for?
Pluto wants us to claim sovereignty over our lives, and if we are avoiding the work that must be done -- if we are not showing up to lay the groundwork-- are we giving away our power to control what our legacy will become?
Juno transits lend a feeling of commitment to whatever She touches. Juno (Hera), the Queen of Sacred Unions was known in Greek mythology as the "jealous wife" to Zeus (Jupiter).
In her numerous stories, She sought revenge on her husband's mistresses in the most facetious of ways.
But these tales are more modern constructs, told by men who likely did not understand -- some would say, who actually feared -- femininity.
Though Juno’s more ancient tales as a sovereign Queen were revised to depict her as a dependent wife, (hence, serving as a bridge from matriarchy to a patriarchal culture) her true legacy remains.
Juno's stories pre-date the Hellenistic tales and depict a woman in control of her emotions and her domain. As a Queen in her own right, she teaches sovereign leadership, diplomacy and the politics of peace.
Juno brought women together to teach them the sacred arts of the feminine -- everything from sacred sexual union to running a domestic household, including how to maintain sovereignty within a committed relationship.
Opposite is the Sun and Mars in Cancer, a highly energized combination of emotional reactivity. With the moon showing us where our personal commitments may be weakening our resolve to create a life we are passionate about, this touch point of the Sun/ Mars could be triggering a reaction to our deepest insecurities.
In addition, these aspects are forming a loose Cardinal Grand Cross -- squaring to Jupiter in Libra and Eris, the Goddess of Discord, in Aries.
Eris is a slow moving asteroid, taking 560 years to orbit the sun. Needless to say, Eris is positioned in the sign of Aries for the long haul, where She has us working through self assertions.
Eris, a Dark Goddess, is associated with the confusion and rage that comes from feeling abandoned. Remember, She was the Goddess who, uninvited to the wedding of the century, crashed the party by rolling a golden apple inscribed “Calisti” (For the Fairest) into the middle of the festivities.
Of course, Aphrodite (Venus), Hera (Juno), and Athena all clamored for the prize and the ensuing chaos led to the Trojan War.
Things may feel quite urgent this weekend, insecurities may be triggered, you may feel tested and feelings of abandonment all are at play here.
It is time to get real. Anger is an energy and a resource.
As Gloria Steinem famously said, “The truth will set you free, but first, it will piss you off!”
There is no escaping the reality of what we are creating for ourselves. That is the beauty of the Dark Goddess. If we are not facing our truth, the Dark Goddess steps in and shows it to us, and this full moon calls on us to re-examine our activities which inevitably contribute to our personal legacy.
It’s time to notice where we are negotiating away too much of our personal power through the unconsciousness of our daily activities.
Are we deliberate with the use of our time and do we honor personal sovereignty that allows us to choose who to partner with? Are our partnerships idealized projections, or are they grounded in soulful interaction that allows for equal exchange of both parties to get their needs met? Are we taking steps to build the legacy or are we avoiding the work that inevitably will be done?
Righteous anger is the feeling that arises when one has been badly taken advantage of. It is ok to feel this way, but it is never ok to invoke revenge.
Pluto and Juno (both retrograde) are demanding maturity in the way we handle these emotions, especially when others have breached our boundaries.
There is no easy way to put this, but this full moon can feel rough.
And yet, if you are willing to ride the waves, you will find it is about standing in your truth, asserting your truth, and letting any righteous indignation contribute to the legacy you wish to leave behind.

Chiron stations retrograde on July 1, 2017 at 28* Pisces where it will retrace its path to 24* through December 5, 2017. If you have planets or points on this degree, you will feel it. Likewise if you have planets or aspects to 28* of the mutable signs (Virgo, Gemini, Sagittarius), these areas of your chart will be activated and will be important for you to watch.
During this transit, Chiron is assisting us to re-examine our shadows.
Chiron is the wounded healer, and where we find Chiron in our chart is the point at which we have to learn how to love ourselves, warts and all.
Chiron was a centaur and renowned for his healing abilities -- though he could never heal himself...
Chiron’s transit through Pisces is guiding us on a journey of healing the soul. When it goes retrograde and retraces its path through these points, it is having us reconsider what our healing needs are.
Pisces is the sign of endings, and it is in Pisces that we bring closure to issues, resolve the unresolved. That we find compassion for what is unfinished and to dissolve our projections, reclaiming the power that we often give away as an unconscious defense mechanism.
28* Pisces is the location of the Fixed Star Scheat, which, according to ancient astrologers, was the second most dreaded malefic star after Algol (The Medusa Star.)
Interestingly, Fixed Star Scheat is in the constellation of Pegasus, the winged horse and servant of the Gods who brought light to the world.
Pegasus was the son of Poseidon and Medusa -- if you recall, Poseidon raped Medusa in the temple of Athena.
Athena then turned Medusa into a Gorgon and then sent Perseus to slay her.
It was during this act of violence that Pegasus was born, springing forth a fully grown winged horse from the blood of Medusa’s neck.
But this tale comes from more ancient origins -- the Triple Goddess of Athena - Metis - Medusa. In order to understand the significance of this Chiron transit, we must get in touch with this story.
Cancer New Moon at 2* Cancer 47" on Jun 23, 2017 8:30PM MST.
Every new moon, we are given a chance to cast off the old and rejuvenate before we take up the charge again. With the sun, moon and earth in perfect alignment, it is a liminal space of raw potentiality.
The new moon occurs when it is at the same degree in the zodiac as the sun -- and when this happens, it represents the alignment of the conscious and the subconscious. Often times in our manifesting with the moon journey, we discover that the subconscious, or what is hidden, holds more power than we give credence to. It is important to start here at the new moon, the subconscious realms, though, just to get a feel for what might be ready to surface...
June's Cancer New Moon has the potential for deep healing. The moon is in the sign of Cancer, making a conjunction to the sun, mercury and mars and an out of sign conjunction to Ceres.
Here we have the meeting of the conscious mind (Sun) and the subconscious mind (Moon), the curious mind (Mercury) and our enthusiasm (Mars) creating a stellium of concentrated energy in the sign of the Mother, siding up next to Ceres (the Great Mother of the zodiac herself) on the cusp of Gemini.
At first glance this feels very intellectual, centered around our "thoughts" about the Mother. But on closer examination of the aspects to the Moon, we see that we are being urged to go within the womb-like structures of psyche and examine what is lurking beneath the surface.
This stellium happens to be making a square to Chiron in Pisces, which has huge potential for deep subconscious healing. Chiron in is the wounded healer and where we find Chiron in the chart is where we find our deepest, most painful -- often suppressed -- core wounds. This tense aspect between Chiron and the New Moon/ Ceres suggests the need to address the Mother Wound.
Cancer is associated with the womb. And the womb, of course, is where we gestate in the amniotic fluids of creation, while the body prepares to be born.
During this gestation period, not only is the body made manifest, but it is where we receive our earliest imprints from the physical world-- in the womb, we are awash in our mother's hormonal cocktails. If she is happy and secure, the imprints are likely positive. If she is unwell, fearful or insecure, the imprints are potentially damaging.
Thus, it is in the womb that we receive our first energetic imprints of generational inheritance likely to be carried with us for eternity.
Cancer, of course, is associated with the Mother, and our mother is our very first encounter with the concept of Goddess.
The relationship we have with our mother serves as the initial template for the relationships cultivate with the Feminine Divine throughout life.
More importantly, it serves as the template for how we ourselves get on in life and the relations we have with others throughout life. If your needs were not met in early childhood, this could have a lasting impact on you, and you may not even be conscious of the way it manifests in your life.
This experience is known as the Mother Wound, an issue as prevalent as it is subversive. It is shrouded in shame and not often talked about because it is just too painful.
The Mother Wound is generational wounding, the pain of the mother passed on to her children which manifests in dysfunctional coping mechanisms later in life, such as never feeling "good enough" and striving for perfection, unhealthy eating disorders or staying in dysfunctional relationships long after they have proven toxic.
It creates the persistent feeling that something is wrong with you and if you could just figure out what it is, then you could "finally" be normal.
It is the deep seated desire to be liked at any cost (usually the cost is your own integrity); it manifests in the notion that you can not speak your truth because if you do, you may be rejected.
Cancer is symbolized by the crab, an animal that lives on the periphery of water and land. It has a tough exterior to protect its mushy insides from the harsh conditions of the physical world.
Paradoxically, in the tenacious grip of the crab’s claws, Cancer has a hard time letting go of past hurts. The archetype of Cancer needs emotion to survive -- it is all about the emotional landscape, but it doesn't always know what to do with the emotions it has.
With Chiron in square to the Cancer Moon, there is a tendency to want to fight the raw vulnerability of being exposed emotionally. The wounds are too painful and Cancer would rather just forget about them.
Cancer, after all, seeks emotional comfort in all things. But if we continue to suppress these hurts, we bury what is special and unique about us.
These wounds will continue to fester and in the end, we risk jeopardizing our own capacity to fully engage in life.
Neptune is calling us out here, having gone retrograde in its rulership earlier in the month. Its as if Neptune went retrograde specifically to help us address these issues at this time.
Neptune retrograde is an invitation to re-evaluate where maybe we have coddled our unhealthy coping mechanisms for too long.
Neptune retrograde actually brings clarity to the places where we have deceived ourselves into believing "the kids are all right."
Neptune Retrograde says, "stop trying to run from the pain. There is a strong potential for deep healing here and the potential to transcend this once and for all."
Athena and Uranus conjunct in the sign of Aries are making a supportive sextile to the new moon stellium.
Athena is our wisdom and She is a protectress of the vulnerable. She appears to show us a creative approach to healing, and next to Uranus, this is certainly an "outside of the box" process!
The message here seems blatant-- that emotional fluency is a powerful source of wisdom. The healthy expression of emotions takes us farther in our healing journey than when we avoid them or stuff them.
So, cry when you need to cry, scream when you are angry. Let's stop suppressing the emotions and learn how to navigate the emotional landscape during this new moon.
For some, this may feel like a crushing new moon, especially if these points are aspected in your personal chart. But the energies are very supportive if you have the courage to confront your core wounds at this time.
Finally, I think its important to note that while new moons are symbolic of a "reset" button, they also represent a portal of awakening. Lunar energetics work in cycles, so this new moon in cancer is an opening to the Cancer/ Capricorn polarity that will play out over the next six months. What surfaces during this new moon is likely to continue to make itself known over the next six months until the full moon in Cancer, where we will be ready to finally let go.
While the themes of the new moon can be experienced on the global level, they may impact each of us differently on the individual level. To understand how these energies will manifest in your life, find the sign of cancer in your natal chart to see which house will be activated. You can create a free chart on my site here. Hello and welcome to the Goddesstrology podcast for the month of June!
We are well into the Season of Gemini at the start of June and this month is looking relatively calm, for the most part. The new moon in Gemini on May 25 set the tone for the curious minded to get out and explore! If you haven’t taken a road trip yet, what are you waiting for? For Mercury’s sake, take a trip to your local library or take your kindle to the beach.
The function of the asteroids in astrology is to connect our inner landscape to the world at large -- a transpersonal hookup, of sorts. Where we find the asteroids in our charts tells us where and how to share our inner knowings and relate with the world. They facilitate transformation between personal awareness into the social, which ultimately contributes and helps evolve the collective awareness.
In other words, this is what we know on a deeply personal level, how we share our personal wisdom with the world, and what the collective stands to benefit in the process. And in her infinity, this is a personal gain, too, as we make space for growth whenever we engage authentically...share parts of the self authentically with the world.
Ceres in Gemini- Getting Our Needs Met Through Communication
The Great Mother, who nurtures her children and provides for their every need. in this sign, Ceres ensures that our needs are being met through communication. Gemini is where we learn that communication is a two way exchange. It requires both the mode of expression, and of receiving, or Listening. The Ceres transit through Gemini helps us to see that talking and sharing of ideas and a healthy debate foster growth. It takes a certain kind of maturity to communicate well with others, and when we are effective communicators, we can get our needs met and also help others do the same.
Athena in Aries and 6/27→ Taurus-- Protecting the Life Force Energy + The Environment
The Daughter, in Aries, sees what needs to be done and makes it happen. Aries is where we assert ourselves, make ourselves known to the world, it is the “I AM” presence. Athena is the far-seeing strategist and in this sign, she shows us the highest and best uses of our vital life force energy. Also in Aries, there is an emphasis on political issues, protecting the vulnerable through the means of law and justice. Looking ahead to her ingress into Taurus, Pallas Athena turns her sights to protecting the environment, especially through political, law or justice means.
Vesta in Leo- Focus on the Authentic Creative Expression
In ancient Rome, Vestal Virgins were priestesses in devotion to the Goddess Vesta. The rule of the day was that women were to be married by a certain age, could not walk about without a male escort, and generally needed a man in order to get by in life. But the Priestesses were honored for their ability to move about freely. Virgin, in this sense --it’s original sense-- meant that the Priestesses were women who needed no man to complete them. Of course, the concept of the word virgin has been distorted by history and today is often used to indicate sexual purity. Vesta, the Sister, the Temple Priestess who stokes the inner flame is strong in the fiery sign of Leo. Vesta represents the autonomy of being and in the sign of Leo, her singular focus is to zero in on our creative self-expression without the need for validation or permission by others.
Juno Retrograde in Capricorn-- Re-Evaluating Social Status + the Politics of Our Relationships:
In Goddesstrology, Juno represents the compromises we make for the benefit of the relationship-- and specifically, the feminine relation to the masculine. With this transit, we continue to see a re-negotiation and a re assertion of women’s rights on the global scale. Where women are rising up to run for political office because they see how the masculine system is failing us. Where women are coming together in unity to say, “we are not going back!” Juno Retrograde conjunct Pluto in the sign of Capricorn -- re-evaluating social status, our politics of partnerships, the foundations of relations. Juno is an interesting archetype because, due to mythic inversion, we hold the notion that she is the jealous wife of Zeus/ Jupiter, who took out her rage for his transgressions on the women whom he slept with. But the truth is that she is the patron of feminine connections, bringing women together. In this sign, this transit, she certainly has been felt in the political arena, what with the women’s march and the ways women are coming together to protest the traditional patriarchal systems we’ve constructed.
Transits & Stations:
6/4: Mars → Cancer
6/6: Venus → Taurus
6/6: Mercury → Gemini
6/9: Jupiter D/ 13* Libra
6/16: Neptune Rx/ 14 * Pisces
6/21: Sun → Cancer

ADDRESSING THE TOXIC MASCULINE
Mars is just finishing up its transit through Gemini and on June 4, will enter the sign of Cancer where he’ll be for 7 weeks. Traditional astrology associates this transit with domestic disputes, and at the very least aggressive Mars is quite uncomfortable in the mothering sign of Cancer. In our current polarized communities, there seems to be a rift between the male ego and the mother. Can toxic masculinity be healed? Can the masculine accept the healing of the mother without her being so suffocating?
Gemini Lunar Cycle:
5/25: New Moon, Gemini
5/31: 1st Quarter, Virgo
6/9: Full Moon, Sagittarius
